To throw down the gauntlet to the summer heat!

Summer… It’s so damn hot here! But you know that for a real it-girl it is important to stay in full glam even in that hellish heat. That is why we declare war on the summer heat. And among our best soldiers would be chic and glam gloves summer 2010.

A glove (in Old English “glof”) is a garment covering the hand. Gloves protect and comfort hands against cold or heat, damage by friction, abrasion or chemicals, and disease; or in turn to provide a guard for what a bare hand should not touch. But for the most fashionistas wearing gloves is just another way to make oneself known.

Gloves history has its roots in great antiquity. According to some translations of Homer’s The Odyssey, Laertes is described as wearing gloves while walking in his garden so as to avoid the brambles.

During the 13th century, ladies began to wear gloves as a fashion accessory. The medieval gloves were made of linen and silk, and sometimes reached to the elbow and were perfumed. But sumptuary laws of the early thirteenth-century were against samite gloves in Bologna, 1294, against perfumed gloves in Rome, 1560.

It was not until the 16th century when Queen Elizabeth I set the fashion for wearing them richly embroidered and jewelled, and for putting them on and taking them off during audiences, to draw attention to her beautiful hands. It was the time of gloves’ greatest elaboration, however, becoming part of the insignia of emperors and kings.

Usually gloves have separate sheaths or openings for each finger. If there is an opening but no covering for each finger you are dealing with “fingerless gloves”. Fingerless gloves with 1 large opening rather than individual openings for each finger are sometimes called sheath “gauntlets”.

Gloves which cover the entire hand but do not have separate finger openings or sheaths are called “mittens”. Mittens are warmer than gloves made of the same material because fingers maintain their warmth better when they are in contact with each other. Reduced surface area reduces heat loss.

A hybrid of glove and mitten which contains open-ended sheaths for the four fingers (as in a fingerless glove, but not the thumb) and also an additional compartment encapsulating the four fingers as a mitten would are called “convertible mittens” or glittens, a combination of “glove” and “mittens”.

Glam gloves summer 2010 range from dainty lace to edgy fingerless. Fingerless puff-sleeve gloves, arm cuffs, long gloves, leather bow gloves, racing stripe gloves, fingerless cashmere and leather glove, leather color block gloves and even more!

But before going to the mall for a new pair of glam gloves 2010 you should know some simple rules of choosing fashion gloves depending on your arm form.

1. long gloves (make you arms slimmer and graceful)

2. fingerless gloves attract attention to your fingertips – take care for your mani

3. average glove length make your thin wrists well-balanced

For risky ones we propose to wear only one glove.
